Last week, the Australian government passed a law aimed at banning children under the age of 16 from using social-media platforms such as TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, and the network formerly known as Twitter (but not, somewhat surprisingly, from YouTube).
Or just see one of the many studies on Gen Z, the most depressed generation. Or take a look at what social media turned our elders into. Now turbo-charged with AI garbage. It's absolutely normal to be drastically regulated, just like cigarettes, with the hope that one day we will all be SM-free (again, just like with cigarettes). What Australia did should be adopted globally, in my opinion.
The rise of social media correlates with the rise of mental distress in teenagers. See this graph: https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/5f16235b684d744cedb3ab00/5f56e95c23360e413434f448_d41586-020-00296-x_17665078.jpeg

Thanks Eugen -- but correlation doesn't prove causation!
That is very true. However & unfortunately, that graph isn't the only clue pointing in that direction, as you well know.
